Day 2 - Lisboa

The other day we started with a walk to the Lisboa Castle. On our way we visited several points of view so we had a lot of possibilities to take picture of the castle. Another remarkable point was cathedral. Lisboa Cathedral is the city’s oldest and most venerated monument, a symbol of medieval religious architecture. The stones of Lisboa’s Sé Cathedral are a testament of the history of this city, since its days as an Arab port. Following the conquest of the city of Lisboa in 1147, D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal ordered the building of this cathedral, also known as Santa Maria Maior Church, on the ruins of a mosque. The whole afternoon we spent at Oriente - the modern suburb of Lisboa which was rebuilt for Expo 1998. It is possible to see how important role plays sea in the life of Portugal, because majority of buildings is inspired by water and ships. Amazing is also the view of the Vasco da Gama Bridge, built for the same purpose as the whole Oriente. Now we did not suspect that we will use the bridge the very last day of our stay. And again we finished demanding day in a restaurant close to the sea enjoying delicious food, wine and atmosphere.
